Educational workshop: "Daily life in France during the German Occupation"

The workshops set students educational tasks to complement the work done during their visit to the museum. Children are shown a range of objects and documents from the period so they can analyse their meaning, purpose and historical interest.

Learning goal: this workshop invites children to see for themselves how French people lived during the Occupation, after analysing a number of documents and examining several objects.

Educational workshop: "Resistance/collaboration"

The workshops set students educational tasks to complement the work done during their visit to the museum. Children are shown a range of objects and documents from the period so they can analyse their meaning, purpose and historical interest.

Learning goal: by observing and analysing documents and objects, this workshop will help pupils understand the various forms of resistance and collaboration: everyday resistance, armed resistance, economic, media and police collaboration… The aim of this session is to show the complexity of the concept of engagement during the Occupation.

The D-Day Landing Beaches

Guided tours

How the site visits are organised:

  • The guide meets you at the Caen Mémorial museum, in your coach (which must be fitted with a microphone).
  • During the outbound trip, the guide gives an introduction which sets the D-Day landings against the general background of the Second World War. They explain why Normandy was chosen to reconquer Europe, and the stakes involved in the D-Day landings.
  • At the end of the circuit, return to the museum to drop the guide off.
